Editing Pages

I have provided you with the ability to edit and create pages for your website! This allows you to completely customize the content and appearance of any page in your site. Make the site truly 'yours' by changing the content to make it specific to your business. use the WYSIWYG (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get) editor provided. When you save a page it is immediately available on your website in its new form.

If you create a new page, you will also probably want to make a link to it somewhere on your site. Either add a link to the new page on one of your existing pages using the WYSIWYG editor - or add a link directly to any of the available navigation lists (look for the Admin area for 'Site Navigation').

The WYSIWYG editor provides you with much of the power of desktop editors like Microsoft Word. It works completely online and doesn't require any kind of installation on your computer. The software to make this work is open source and is known as FCKeditor. FCKeditor is named for its creator, Frederico Caldeira Knabben. FCKeditor is compatible with most Internet browsers which include: Internet Explorer 5.5+ (Windows), Firefox 1.0+, Mozilla 1.3+ and Netscape 7+.

Some of its powerful features include:

  • Font formatting: type, size, color, style, bold, italic, etc
  • Text formatting: alignment, indentation, bullets list, etc
  • Cut, Paste, and Paste as Plain Text, Undo and Redo
  • Paste from Word cleanup with auto detection
    • (Word makes very ugly code if pasted directly, FCK Editor automatically cleans up the code for you!)
  • Link and anchor support
  • Image insertion, with upload and server browsing support
  • Table creation and editing (add, delete rows, etc)
  • Table cells editing (size, color, etc)
  • Forms
  • Spelling checker
    • The spelling checker integrated with this editor is ieSpell.
ieSpell is a free (for personal use only - see below )Internet Explorer browser extension that spell checks text input boxes on a webpage. It should come in particularly handy for users who do a lot of web-based text entry (e.g. web mails, forums, blogs, diaries). Even if your web application already includes spell checking functionality, you might still want to install this utility because it is definitely much faster than a server-side solution. Plus you get to store and use your personal word list across all your applications, instead of maintaining separate ones on each application.
The program installs as a new button in the IE toolbar (as well as a new menu item under "Tools") - after filling in a form, just hit the ieSpell button and it pops up a dialog, similar to the MS Word spell check. ieSpell also works (right-click menu only) on other IE based browsers such as SlimBrowser, CrazyBrowser, MSN, MyIE, etc.
ieSpell is not spyware or adware. It's free for personal use only. All other use requires a commercial license (currently $15). See Licensing for more information.
