ProblemsSendingIf you are having problems Sending email... Many Internet Service Providers (ISP) require that you use their outgoing mail servers to send email. They do this to help control the amount of email sent through their network and to prevent unauthorized persons from sending spam email using their network. If your ISP requires this, the mail servers for your DTC domain name are not involved in this problem. The best way to tell if this is the case, is to check the Support page for your ISP - they usually tell you if this is the case. Another sign that indicates that this MAY be the problem is if you requires that you are still receiving email but cannot send email. '''Solution:' The solution is easy, but may require some investigation on your part. You will need to set up the email account using your ISP's outgoing mail server. ISPs usually list this configuration information on their Support site. If you have an email address from your ISP and that address is working to send email, you can just use the same outgoing mail settings as are being used in the working account. Sending email works from my office, but when I take my laptop somewhere else I can't send email any more In this case you are using the email account from different locations - and therefore different ISPs (See the ISP explanation above). For instance, you use the email account from your home office where you have Cox as your ISP - and it works fine with the outgoing mail server as defined (something like smtp.east.cox.net), BUT you go to Starbucks - and use the email account from there - you can still receive, but can't send... THAT makes sense because Starbucks doesn't use Cox for their ISP, so the connection to the outgoing mail server fails. At Starbucks, you need to use mail.yourdomainnamehere.com as your outgoing mail server (the ISP that Starbucks uses lets you use your regular outgoing mail server)... If you are having this problem while staying at the same location to use the email account... the source of the problem is probably an intermittent connection to the mail server. Solution:' The fix to this problem varies based on the email client you are using. (Outlook, Thunderbird etc.) and the operating system you are using (XP, Vista, Windows7, Mac OSX, etc.) You may need to create a second user identity on your computer, or a second identity, or a second email account, or maybe just manually change the outgoing server configuration as you move from place to place. NOTE: You can always send email from wherever you are using your webmail (SquirrelMail). Just log in to webmail.yourdomainnamehere.com |
